Status Report: 36,000 Miles

All good things must come to an end. I've hit 36,000 miles in this car, which marks the end of my 3 year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty... only 23 months after I purchased the car. Of course, I still have the 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty, but at my current rate, that will only last me another 15 months or so. That's what ~19,000 miles a year gets you! Anyway, I thought this warranty-ending milestone [...]

TSSCC: Autocross Event #6 (2016)

I figured I'd pop up to the TSSCC event this weekend since I had nothing better to do, in order to make up for the kind-of-rained-out Chicago Region event at Route 66 last weekend. I like these events because they typically have less people, which allows for more runs, and a more laid-back atmosphere. I am, however, not a huge fan of the surface they run on at Lake County Fairgrounds. No matter, though! [...]

Chicago SCCA: Autocross Event #5 (2016)

Autocross #5 is in the books! This was kind of an awkward event due to the weather, which forced it to be canceled at about the half-way point. As such, this will be a shorter post than usual. I wound up in 3rd place in STX (only 0.003 seconds behind my nemesis in second place), but he was actually further ahead of me until the results were "adjusted." I'll explain below. Date: Sunday, August 28, 2016 [...]

Slambert Performance Twin-Hitch and Trailer Install Demo

When talking to some folks regarding the Slambert Performance Twin-Hitch, they often mention that they "don't want to deal with the trouble of installing and uninstalling the hitch" all the time. I think some people think that it's a cumbersome thing to do, so I nabbed this video off of my dashcam to demonstrate just how easy it is. This is only a 4-minute-long video, and yet it begins with my pulling up to [...]

The BRZ Receives a New Clutch Assembly Under Warranty

A broader post will follow shortly recapping the first 36,000 miles of ownership of this car from a maintenance and reliability perspective. That mileage marks the end of the bumper-to-bumper warranty period, so it seemed an appropriate point to stop and reflect. However, I wanted to separate this issue out into its own post to explain exactly what has gone on. I cannot recall exactly when this issue started to make itself apparent, but I want to [...]

Milwaukee SCCA: Autocross Event #8 (2016)

Lead photo courtesy of Brian Stone. Today was an interesting weekend. My mom came to visit, which doesn't sound entirely relevant to autocross, but it's the reason I was at this Milwaukee Region event this weekend. She wanted to see what autocross was like, and well... as you will see from the video below, she definitely found out all about what autocross is like! As far as the event itself, I feel pretty confident in [...]

Thinkware F770 Dual-Channel Dash Cam (Long Term Test)

I finally got around to installing a dash cam in my car. This is something I had originally meant to do right when I purchased the car, but priorities shifted and I never got around to it. Finally, after a few close calls recently, I decided to bite the bullet. There are several reasons I wanted a dash cam: The sports car effect. When you drive a sports car (much less one that has been [...]

Subaru Challenge 2016 (Autocross)

So this was a departure from my typical autocrosses. Every year, apparently, Subaru of Indiana hosts a "Subaru Challenge" at their factory in Lafayette, Indiana. It's run by the Indianapolis Region SCCA Chapter, and only Subarus are allowed to compete. I thought this would be a fun event to attend, and it wound up being a lot of fun! Got to see a lot of very interesting modified Subies! I came away with 4th in [...]
