Hello everyone! This is the first of what will hopefully be a continuing series of posts about my adventures in this car. I have been wanting a BRZ since the rumors of its existence first started permeating the internets. I’ve been on several test drives at various dealerships over the past few years, but never had the means to actually take one home with me.

Until now! I am finally the proud owner of a 2015 Subaru BRZ, which I literally purchased off of the showroom floor. Not only that, but it’s a Series.Blue edition! The local dealership accepted my low-ball offer via email, and so I visited them to take a look at the car and consider it, but not actually buy it. Once I saw the car, though, and the special interior, I pretty much completely fell in love, and knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to own a Series.Blue. This is my first “fun car,” and also the first car I’ve ever purchased. My previous (and only other) car was a 1998 Subaru Outback that was handed down to me 8 years ago with 180k miles, and which I sold with 285k miles when I purchased this car. So this is a big upgrade for me.

For the uninitiated, the BRZ is a vehicle jointly developed between Subaru and Toyota. The idea was to build a car designed in the same spirit as the Miata: A cheap, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive, light, toss-able sports car designed to be fun at any speed. Unlike most performance vehicles these days that are obsessed with power and grip, the BRZ (and its Scion/Toyota cousin, the FR-S) is obsessed with sliding around and being silly. That might sound ridiculous, but it works. Speaking of power, the BRZ has 200 hp, and 151 lb-ft of torque. It isn’t much, but the car only weighs ~2800 lbs, so it’s enough to have fun with, and it’s way faster than my previous car, so I’m pleased!

As for the Series.Blue part of the car, this is a special edition of the BRZ, with only 1000 sold in the US (500 in Crystal White Pearl, and 500 in World Rally Blue). They come with a whole host of goodies, including a front lip, side skirts, rear spats, underbody aero trays, black STi wheels, and red-painted calipers. It looks good, but I actually wanted this car for the interior. The other cars have red stitching, which is cool, but the Series.Blue has blue stitching, and blue leather accents, and a bunch of other nice touches inside. I love the fact that the interior matches the exterior (World Rally Blue is the best car color in the world!)

I’m super-excited to join the Toyobaru community, and I look forward to all the adventures I’ll most certainly have with this new car! For now, here are some pictures! (For some reason, all the in-dealership photos came out blurry, so I took some more in the parking lot just after purchase.)

LET THE ADVENTURES BEGIN!!!

I was way too excited…

…to hold the camera steady enough…

…to take clear photos.

Out with the old; in with the new.

It was hard saying goodbye, but the logistics of holding on to her would have been too complicated 🙁

Later in the day I finally calmed down enough…

…to take some steady photos 😀
